Abrolhos Filmes is an independent Brazilian production company dedicated to author-driven works with artistic and social impact. Its key titles include “Chico Rei Entre Nós” (2020), winner of the Audience Award and a Jury Honorable Mention at the 44th São Paulo International Film Festival, licensed by Canal Brasil and the University of Texas, and screened at festivals such as Festival do Rio, Feminacine and Afrika Filmfest. The company produced the short “Corpo Celeste” (2023) and the series “Educação Que Dá Certo” (2022), and is an associate producer on “Patti Cake$” (Sundance) and “Call Me By Your Name” (Oscar). It is currently developing the feature “Um Casamento,” selected for the Hubert Bals Fund, BrLab, Festival Guiões, Cine Qua Non Lab, TFL Next and Pop Up Film Residency.

Um casamento

Loosely inspired by a true story, the film Um Casamento takes place in the early 1950s and follows the encounter between the young Kalapalo woman Jakuí and the sertanista Ayres Câmara, whose marriage—then prohibited under the regulations of the Indian Protection Service—became one of the major media events of the decade. The project was selected for the Hubert Bals Fund – Script Development (Netherlands, 2022), BrLab Features (Brazil, 2023), Festival Guiões – PT Co-Prod (Portugal, 2023) and Cine Qua Non Lab – Taller de Líneas Argumentales (Mexico, 2022). In 2024, it received awards from the Torino Film Lab – TFL Next (Italy) and the Pop Up Film Residency in Paris (France, 2024).

Kelly Cyclone

Kelly Cyclone begins with a real and controversial figure but goes beyond biography: it uses Kelly’s trajectory to reveal structural issues in Brazilian peripheries, the criminalization of style, public judgment, repression of street culture and the erasure of those who dare to exist. Across four episodes, the series connects her story with artists and young people who face similar dilemmas when performing identity or occupying spaces of visibility. Between past and present, fashion and music, digital and peripheral, Kelly exposes cultural continuities that must be seen, understood and transformed. The series confronts a social dynamic in which being young and from the periphery can still cost a life.

Chico Pé de Pato
